When you call an 800 number and the person on the other end of the line says, “Reservation desk,” the assumption is you are talking to the reservation desk of the hotel you presumably called.
Yes, you are right. Accents are relative. I have a "Buffalo" accent. My kids grew up in the Midwest and when we came back East, their classmates commented on their accent.
So glad you were able to get your money back. I have fallen for buying from an ad on Facebook for clothes that were advertised as being made in S Carolina, but came on a slow boat from China. AmEx, which usually takes many days or weeks to settle any other claims I've made, refunded my purchase price within a day or two...which tells me they know these are scam sites, but make so much money from them, they don't care. Likewise, Facebook never did anything to get rid of the advertisers after I reported them (though now, a few years later, they are no longer advertising, so just maybe the got brought to justice, or maybe they figured out it doesn't pay to advertise to me). I do worry that the scams are getting cleverer and I am getting older, so there will likely be a day I'll fall for more.
When it comes to government fraud, I am speechless as they seem not to even bother trying to hide it. Lots of great information in your piece!
Another great one! Thanks Pat!

Totally agree. And with AI in the game? It's going to be tough.
thank you, Michael.
Why's an accent a red flag? Everyone has an accent.
